11:30 AM-12:45 PM – Advanced/Professional Body Positive Contemporary Ballet with Shannon Alvis
This class is for experienced movers who want to THRIVE in an inclusive and body positive environment.
6:00-7:15 PM – Adult Beginner Body Positive Ballet with Kara Roseborough
If you’ve thought about trying ballet, it’s been a while since you’ve been to class, or you want to brush up on your technique, this class is for you. Always inclusive, always body positive. Pointe shoes optional for all gender identities.
Shannon Alvis, originally from Greenwood, Indiana, danced professionally with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago for nine years. During this time, she toured internationally, dancing works by many world-renowned choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin, Jorma Elo, Twyla Tharp, Margo Sappington, Kevin O’Day, and Johan Inger. Alvis left HSDC after being asked by artistic director Jim Vincent to join Nederlands Dans Theater to further her growth and career as a dancer in Europe. After three years with the company in Holland, Alvis gave birth to a baby girl, and is now back in Chicago. She was most recently seen in the Lyric Opera’s production of Carousel, and continues to do numerous projects around the city. Shannon has also been on faculty at Interlochen School of the Arts for the past two summers.
Kara Roseborough is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and writer based in Evanston. She is an alumna of Dance Center Evanston, The Chicago Academy for the Arts and the University of Utah (from which she holds a Bachelor of Arts in English). Kara has danced and choreographed professionally with the Charleston City Ballet, Ruth Page Civic Ballet, the Evanston Dance Ensemble, and Fleetwood-Jourdan Theatre. Kara is a Cecchetti Ballet certified teacher. She is currently on faculty at Dance Center Evanston and the Assistant Director of the youth company ede2. She is a guest artist with South Chicago Dance Theatre for the 2019/2020 season.
